DANUBEPARKS WILDislands
LIFE WILDisland ist ein großartiges Beispiel für sektorübergreifende, grenzüberschreitende Zusammenarbeit, an der 15 Partner aus acht Ländern beteiligt sind. Sie haben sich zusammengeschlossen, um insgesamt 34 Inseln von Deutschland bis Rumänien wiederherzustellen und zu erhalten. Das Projekt sieht folgende Maßnahmen vor: Wiederherstellung von Inseln in Wasserkraftwerken (Obere Donau), Optimierung der grauen (Schifffahrts-)Infrastruktur zur Initiierung und Wiederherstellung von Inseln (Mittlere Donau), Sedimentmanagement (Untere Donau), Maßnahmen zur Wiederherstellung von Weichholz-Auwäldern (EU-prioritärer Lebensraum 91E0*: Auenwälder mit Alnus glutinosa und Fraxinus excelsior) sowie eine donauweite Sensibilisierungs- und Schutzkampagne für den Danube Wild Island Habitat Corridor.
Das Projekt zielt darauf ab, ein Best-Practice-Beispiel für einen ökologischen Korridor in der EU zu schaffen, unterstützt von der EU Kommission und strategischen Partnern wie der Internationalen Kommission zum Schutz der Donau (IKSD), der EU-Strategie für den Donauraum und der Ramsar-Konvention.
